Ministry Leadership Coaching FAQs

  • Why do church leaders need coaching?

Like Paul, church leaders must admit they have not obtained perfection (Phil. 3:12), and church leadership coaches help them press on toward their goals. No church leader is all-knowing in every situation. God places gifts in the body that everyone needs, including encouragement (Rom. 12:6–8). By God’s design, even leaders need someone to help them overcome their weaknesses or blind spots.

  • Who needs ministry leadership coaching?

Anyone in a leadership position should receive coaching at some point in their career. Even if you’re confident in your leadership skills, why not take it to the next notch. Plus, while leadership skills come naturally only to a few, it’s not always so natural for others. Many of us must push ourselves to learn these skills. Leadership coaches help ministry leaders take a shortcut toward best practices—which means there are fewer casualties on your way to excellence!

  • How does Ekklesia Leader coach me?

For leadership coaching, we meet with you over Zoom or phone calls to build a trusting relationship. We get to know you by asking you to describe what’s important to you. We reflect on leadership situations together and help clarify what went wrong, what went right, and how we can learn from it. Through that process, with a few other valuable exercises, you will be more confident as a leader and better understand your next step towards excellence.

  • How do you build a church leadership team?

Church leadership teams are easier to build than business leadership teams. This is because the purpose of the church already contains a critical glue for any team: a vision that gives meaning to life’s experiences. The eternal significance of ministry is a given but keeping people on the team once challenges happen is difficult. Building and maintaining the team requires mutual respect and trust between leaders and followers. Leaders must model what they want from their followers, take their concerns seriously, and make room for aspiring leaders to grow. When a ministry team is healthy like this, its momentum pushes it forward and draws new people in.
